Jamilah Rashid
Program Manager, Study Abroad
Jamilah Rashid is the Program Manager for Study Abroad in the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center, at Howard University. She brings over 15 years of experience within International Education and Exchange. Jamilah is excited about her role as it sits at the intersection of two lifelong passions: youth development and international engagement. Her first opportunity to travel abroad was as a student at Howard University which opened the door for her future work. She has since lived in Malaysia for a year, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for ten years and has traveled to 30 countries. While living in the UAE, Jamilah homeschooled her four children and developed cross cultural experiential programming for Emirates Explorers, a youth group composed of families from multiple nationalities. Upon her return to the US and the completion of a Masters in Youth Development Leadership from Clemson University, she founded My World, a global citizenship program for Atlanta area teens focused on building skills in the areas of self-awareness, communication, collaboration, and cultural understanding, culminating in travel to Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Through raising her family abroad and facilitating international travel and exchange, Jamilah knows firsthand the empowerment that’s created when a Howard education is coupled with global engagement. She is delighted to return to her beloved Alma Mater to work with faculty and staff to ensure many other young people also reap the benefits.
