Ariella Marie Williams (B.S.’25) is an honors International Affairs and Spanish double major. Her interest in International Affairs began in high school, where she interacted with immigrant and D.A.C.A students. Her trip to an immigrant detainment center further sparked her desire to serve as an advocate for immigrant and maternal health issues. Williams aspires to become a Peace Corps volunteer and diplomat. Currently, she is pursuing advocacy as a Maternal Health Policy Research Intern at Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia. She promotes legislation and programs to prioritize maternal and infant health. This semester, Williams is studying abroad in Colombia where she is examining race, gender, and ethnic complexities from an Afro-Colombian perspective. She looks forward to also using this opportunity to explore her Afro-Latin identity and learn Afro-descendant stories from a non-westernized perspective. When she is not pursuing advocacy efforts for women’s health, immigrants, and diplomacy, she shares her love of dance and culture as an Afro-Latin dance instructor for Howard University’s Spanish language and Latino culture student organization, Changó.
